Life On The Edge

Kurt Vonnegut once said, "I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can't see from the center.” It is my belief that the "edge" he was talking about was the edge-only brownie pan.

As a testament to my obsession of all things "biting" (and a quick digression from my NYC-related posts), I present to you the edge-only brownie pan:

The physical manifestation of awesomeness. It is in my humble opinion that the only brownies worth eating are those found on the edge. The kind that is just a little bit gooey as you get two bites into the piece, but that maintains a chewy, slightly firm texture. The kind that forces your teeth and jaw to struggle, just a little bit, in order to fully enjoy and appreciate the euphoric, dense chocolate-y yumminess that's about to enter your mouth and take your taste buds for a magical ride.

I feel very strongly about this. Apparently, I feel so strongly about it that I received not one, but TWO of these beauties as birthday gifts for my birthday in June! (thank you, Laura and Lisa!) Honestly, I need to find more topics to talk about than a brownie pan found only in a monthly catalog that "specializes in practical problem-solvers for the home". Yeah, that's right; it's not a frivolous expense. It's a practical problem solver. I'm having trouble verbalizing how amazing this creature is. How SO well it embodies the mantra that it's the little things in life that counts.

So to you mushy middle pieces--go on, take center stage; steal the spotlight; go about your day; see if I care. You know where to find me. On the edge.

Be happy and Carpe Diem!
